{"id":64,"date":"2011-10-12T13:19:56","date_gmt":"2011-10-12T13:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/sites\/gsm\/?p=64"},"modified":"2014-06-02T14:55:12","modified_gmt":"2014-06-02T18:55:12","slug":"innovative-researcher-mclemore-joins-the-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/2011\/10\/12\/innovative-researcher-mclemore-joins-the-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovative Researcher McLemore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/mclemore.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/mclemore.jpg\" alt=\"mclemore\" width=\"250\" height=\"194\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4037\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/mclemore.jpg 250w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/mclemore-100x77.jpg 100w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/mclemore-85x65.jpg 85w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Georgia Southern national research visibility has risen another notch as noted researcher Don McLemore has joined the University as Research Professor, Department of Chemistry and Director, Office of Industry Relations and Economic Development.<\/p>\n<p>He has had extensive private sector experience in chemical research and business development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring my career, I have had the opportunity to engage in research that has included polymers used in artificial hearts, stealthy aircraft, construction materials, automotive products, micro- and macro-electronics, high performance composites, ballistic protection, energy management, adhesives and coatings,\u201d said McLemore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn recent years, I\u2019ve had the opportunity to use my experience in polymers to help industrial and financial organizations understand some of the complexities of bio-energy based on the fact that the structure and composition of renewable biomass are derived from their polymeric molecules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McLemore\u2019s three primary research areas at present are biomass-derived materials, biofuels and structure-property-chemistry relationships in rigid-rod polymers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon McLemore is a proven creator, implementer and manager of new business initiatives and we are excited to have him join Georgia Southern University,\u201d said Charles Patterson, vice president for research and dean of the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies. \u201cAs Georgia Southern continues to expand its research activity, Don will be a great addition.
