It\u2019s a fact that has briefly emboldened his opponents, but also one which has fueled his drive and ambition to be the best, giving those opponents an unpleasant surprise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d say I\u2019ve been an underdog all my life, and if I had to change my size, I wouldn\u2019t at all,\u201d said Brown. \u201cIf I was a different size, I probably wouldn\u2019t have the records I\u2019ve been breaking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In four years with Georgia Southern, Brown has rewritten the record books and set a standard that will be difficult to match for future players. He leaves an Eagles team that posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in 30 years\u00a0 and posted winning seasons for the last three years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individually, Brown is the Sun Belt Player of the Year, the Georgia College Player of the Year, an All-America honorable mention selection and is the only player in Sun Belt history with more than\u00a0 2,000 points and 500\u00a0 assists. He is fourth on the Sun Belt career scoring list and 19th in steals, and he is the first player in Sun Belt history to earn first-team all-conference awards all four years of his career.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/tookie-2-384x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7271\" width=\"191\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/tookie-2-384x600.jpg 384w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/tookie-2-64x100.jpg 64w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/tookie-2-315x492.jpg 315w, https:\/\/ww2.georgiasouthern.edu\/news\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/tookie-2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For Georgia Southern, Brown is the all-time Division I scoring leader with 2,290 points and is also first in games played (129), games started (125)\u00a0 and free throws (608). He also ranks in the Eagles top 10 for career field goals, assists, steals, free-throw percentage, three-point percentage and three-pointers made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver 44 years there\u2019s been a lot of guys that come through the league, and anytime you say \u2018only\u2019 beside something it means you did something pretty good in your career,\u201d said Mark Byington, Eagles men\u2019s basketball head coach. \u201cAnytime you lose one of the greatest players in your program\u2019s history you know there\u2019s a void there, and we have got to figure that out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to Brown, the Eagles will lose graduating senior Montae Glenn, who shot 62 percent from the field this season, second- highest season record in school history, and who also boasts a career shooting percentage of 58.6 percent, the highest percentage in Georgia Southern history. Glenn also ranked in the top 10 for blocked shots (500) and rebounds (723) and 15th for games played (118).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown,\nhowever, says he isn\u2019t worried\nabout the Eagles, who he believes have the talent for another run at the championship, and who are building on a foundation he and his teammates helped to create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCoach always said since my freshman year, you won\u2019t leave any regrets on the court here at\nGeorgia Southern,\u201d said Brown.\n\u201cAnd I feel like I have no regrets\nat all. I\u2019ve done\nall I can for this school,\nand there will be many more players \u2014 good players are\ngoing to come through and\ndo the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown was invited to play in the Portsmouth Invitational, a tournament that selects 64 of the best senior college basketball players from across the nation to play in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team. Brown is one of only two players under six-feet tall at the tournament, a fact that will lead some to underestimate him again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Byington believes they\u2019ll come to realize what Eagle\nfans have understood all along \u2014 never count out\nTookie Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s going to play professional basketball,\u201d said Byington. \u201cYou know, we all hope it\u2019s the NBA. But he\u2019s kind of used to being doubted, you know, whether it be his size or different things. Sometimes he rises to his best when he is doubted, and it wouldn\u2019t surprise me if he didn\u2019t impress some NBA guys and get drafted.
