Eagle Battalion Hosted ROTC Commissioning Ceremony
Nine Georgia Southern University seniors were commissioned into the U.S. Army during a special ceremony at the Performing Arts Center Thursday. In addition, four of the seniors were recognized as Distinguished Military Students which place them among the top 20 percent of ROTC students in the country.
Commissionees were William Anthony Brinson, Carlos Manuel Feliciano, Landis Peter Ford, Keisha Elizabeth Green, Jean Carlos Navedo, William Josiah Neville III, Darius Jerome Postell, Sean Gregory Slone, and Timothy Dale Thrash.
The students recognized as distinguished military students for demonstrating high scholastic accomplishments, moral character, military aptitude, and leadership ability included Cadets Navedo, Neville, Slone and Thrash.
The latest class of graduates have been a major part of the Eagle Battalion’s rise to national prominence. The Battalion, which includes students from Georgia Southern, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah State University, Savannah College of Art and Design and East Georgia College was back-to-back recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Award (2009-10 and 2010-11), ranking it in the top eight ROTC programs in the nation.
The Eagle Battalion of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Georgia Southern University was established in 1980. The first ROTC classes began fall quarter of 1980, as an extension program of the Department of Military Science at Mercer University.
