Tillman Military Scholars Program Provides Financial Aid Opportunity

Military service members, veterans and their spouses have until Feb. 15 to apply for financial aid through the Tillman Military Scholars program, which attempts to remove financial barriers to completing a degree program.

The scholarship covers direct study-related expenses such as tuition and fees, in addition to other needs such as housing and child care. The Tillman Military Scholars Foundation also provides access to transition assistance tools, career guidance, entrepreneurial and service-related workshops.

In 2002, Pat Tillman proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve his country. This decision was just one of many he made over the course of his lifetime to help others and serve a cause greater than his own self-interest. Following his death in 2004, while serving with the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, his family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation. In 2008, understanding the challenges experienced by military families and the increased need for educational resources, the board of directors refocused its mission: to invest in military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships; building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others. To date, 230 Tillman Military Scholars representing 34 states and attending 71 academic institutions nationwide have been awarded more than $3.2 million in scholarship support.
