Weeks of Welcome Kicks Off August 16
Weeks of Welcome (WOW), a four-week collaborative organization-wide effort led by Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, kicks off Friday, Aug. 16 with Operation Move-In. Based on three learning outcomes – Identify, Connect and Engage – the event is designed to help new students get acquainted with various campus programs and to provide social and learning opportunities on campus and in the Statesboro community.
By participating, students will be able to:
1. Identify resources and services provided to them on campus and in the surrounding community.
2. Make a connection to faculty, staff and students to form a sense of belonging.
3. Engage and interact with those different from themselves by participating in new experiences.
“Those first few weeks of school are crucial. We want to see
students branch out from their high school friends and make new connections.
During WOW, they’ll learn everything from where to get food to financial aid,”
says Justin Jeffery, assistant director for Student Involvement.
During the course of events, students will have the opportunity to meet the
Georgia Southern Eagles football team, attend fun social events like Eagles
Night Out and Day One, as well as a chance to Talk with the Dean, watch free
movies and participate in bouldering at the Recreation Activity Center. In its
second official year, Weeks of Welcome will take place through Friday, Sept.
13.
