Concert to Feature Songs of the Civil War

Georgia Southern University presents its final concert in the America’s Music grant series on Friday, Oct. 4 with a presentation of “We are Coming, Father Abram: Abraham Lincoln and the Songs of the Civil War.” The performance begins at 7 p.m. in the Carter Recital Hall in the Foy Building, 84 Georgia Avenue. The concert is free and open to everyone.

“America's Music, A Film History of Our Popular Music From Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway,” presents this free concert featuring Michael Lasser, Cindy Miller and Alan Jones. Lasser is a lecturer, writer, broadcaster and critic. He is co-author of America's Songs: The Stories Behind the Songs of Broadway, Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley. Miller is described as singing every kind of song and performing it with wit, warmth and conviction. Jones, a singer and piano player, is best known as a cabaret performer.

The concert is sponsored by the Zach S. Henderson Library. This program is a project by the Tribeca Film Institute in collaboration with the American Library Association, Tribeca Flashpoint and the Society for American Music. It is made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
