Student Media to Host First Amendment Free Food Festival

The Office of Student Media is hosting its Sixth Annual First Amendment Free Food Festival (FAFFF) on Tuesday, April 22 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Williams Center Plaza and Russell Union Rotunda. This award-winning event offers an educational opportunity to teach students about their First Amendment rights using a fun and unique platform that includes free food. To participate, students must sign away their First Amendment rights. Students will be allowed to enter and eat food from various local restaurants while trying to avoid the Goon Squad (Men’s Rugby team). The Goon Squad will penalize those who violate their free food contract. Featured organizations and restaurants include Jimmy Johns, Moe’s, Hungry Howie’s, South & Vine Public House, Emma’s Restaurant, Northland Cable, Campus Crossings, The Avenue, The Connection, The Forum, The Grove and The Islands. In the past, FAFFF has been honored as Georgia Southern’s ‘Best Program of the Year’ for the 2009-‘10 and 2011-‘12 academic years. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise of religion, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right to peaceably assemble, and petition Government for a redress of grievances. It was ratified on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights. The Office of Student Media consists of video, print and online news coverage. Student Media produces print publications including The George-Anne, The Reflector Magazine, The Miscellany Magazines for the Arts, Our Neighborhood, Our House, The Lantern Walk, and more.
