Patriot Run 5K to Benefit Student Veteran Association’s Wounded Eagle Fund
Georgia Southern University’s Student Veteran Association will host the Patriot Run 5K beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC) Pavilion to benefit the Wounded Eagle Fund, a scholarship for student veterans, especially if injured in the line of duty. The entry fee is $20 and includes a t-shirt and participation in the post-race celebration featuring music, awards and free food from Jimmy John’s and Bliss Berry. Pre-race packets will be available at the RAC Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25 from 3 – 8 p.m. Visit www.patriotrun5k.eventbrite.com to sign up. Student Veteran Association (SVA) is a new organization on campus to support student veterans in their transition from combat to classroom. About the Wounded Eagle Fund Last year a 1977 graduate from Georgia Southern University's College of Business decided he wanted to help military veterans who face many challenges as they ease back into civilian life and navigate the nuances of higher education. The family has endowed the Wounded Eagle Fund to benefit the nearly 800 veteran students, including dependents, at Georgia Southern. Recipients must meet the award criteria below:- Enrolled as full-time students during fall or spring semester
- Veteran Wounded Warriors from any branch of service
- Maintaining a minimum 3.2 GPA
- A member of the Student Veteran Association
- A Disabled veteran student
- A veteran student Purple Heart recipient
- A veteran student undergoing unforeseen demonstrated hardship
