Georgia Southern University to Host Southeast Conference on Positive Behavior Interventions and Support
Georgia Southern University’s Division of Continuing Education will host the Southeast Conference on Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) scheduled for June 8-10 at Georgia Coastal Center, 305 Fahm Street in Savannah, Georgia.
The event will include a pre-conference leadership session on Sunday, June 8 that will feature Dr. James Joseph Fox III and Eric Landers as the keynote speakers. Fox is Research Director of the Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Learning and Development, an accomplished Center of Excellence at East Tennessee State University, where he also is a professor for the special education program in the Department of Human Development and Learning. Landers received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida with an emphasis on children with emotional and behavioral disorders. He has worked as a classroom teacher for students with behavioral disorders, as a professor at West Virginia University and Georgia Southern University and as an independent consultant for supporting school-wide behavioral systems. During the conference, participants will have the option of choosing either the beginner or advanced track for PBIS implementation. Sessions will emphasize preventing school-wide challenging behaviors, teaching desired school-wide behaviors and routines and ensuring consistency among staff. At the completion of the conference, teachers will have plans and the materials necessary for effective and efficient implementation. The conference registration is open to the public and is capped at 350 people.
