Listen to Patriotic Music on Campus Friday
Patriotic tunes will fill the air on campus this Fourth of July and you’re invited to enjoy the music.
“Good listening locations include the Library parking area, Sweetheart Circle and the banks of Lake Wells and Lake Ruby,” said Bede Mitchell, dean of the Zach S. Henderson Library.
Located atop the Library, the University’s carillon, a percussion instrument typically housed in the bell tower of a church or other municipal building, will play continuous songs between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the hour and half hour. The playlist will include the following All-American melodies:
- "Battle Hymn of the Republic"
- "God Bless America"
- "God of Our Fathers"
- "My Country 'Tis of Thee"
- "Eternal Father Strong to Save"
- "America the Beautiful"
The carillon’s primary purpose is to ring the time on the hour and half hour. President Bruce Grube had the carillon installed in 2000 on top of the library because of the building’s height and its central location on campus. The carillon plays the Georgia Southern University Alma Mater Monday through Saturday beginning at 12:15 p.m. It is also used during special occasions and holidays throughout the year.
