Georgia Southern University to Host Diversity Speaker as part of First-Year Experience

Georgia Southern University will welcome Maura Cullen, Ed.D., diversity trainer and speaker, on Wednesday, September 3, as part of the First-Year Experience (FYE) Success Series.
Cullen’s lectures are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., at the Russell Union Ballroom. The topic is “Dumb Things Well-Intended People Say: 10 Skills to Increase Your Diversity Competence.” The lecture will discuss practical ways to quickly transform the quality and effectiveness of one’s interactions and 10 common statements that are often well intended but may be offensive.
Cullen has more than 25 years of experience as a trainer and keynote speaker on diversity issues at college campuses. She received her doctorate in Social Justice and Diversity Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amhurst and is the founder of the Diversity Student Summit a founding faculty member of the Social Justice Training Institute and author of 35 Dumb Things Well-Intended People Say.
The Multicultural Student Center and FYE will sponsor the lecture. This event is open to the public.
