Become a Resident Scholar with Georgia Southern University’s Alternative Break Program

Georgia Southern University’s Alternative Break (AB) Program, sponsored by the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, provides faculty and staff members with an opportunity to participate in AB trips or week-long experiences, in which groups of students travel domestically or internationally to provide service to an organization focused on a specific social issue, as Resident Scholars. Faculty and staff members who participate in an AB trip with a group are known as Resident Scholars. Their responsibilities include supporting the student leaders, assisting with the educational process where possible, participating in service and reflection activities and taking the lead in an emergency. Leading up to the trip, students engage in service with a local organization and participate in at least four meetings to learn more about the specific social issue. To learn more about becoming a Resident Scholar, complete the Resident Scholar Interest Form. Upon completion, participants will be added to the AB Program’s database of potential Resident Scholars and contacted with information about an upcoming interest session to learn more about the requirements and opportunities associated with the AB program. For more information, contact Katy Kaesebier, coordinator of Alternative Spring Breaks and Community Partnerships by emailing kkaesebier@georgiasouthern.edu.
