Lunch and Learn Featuring Rebekah Faulk & Martha Nesbit
September 15, 2014

The Garden of the Coastal Plain at Georgia Southern University will kick off its 2014-‘15 “Return to Your Roots, Pursue Your Passion” Lunch and Learn Series with Culinary Curator Rebekah Faulk on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from Noon – 1 p.m. at the Garden of the Coastal Plain, 1505 Bland Ave., under the Heritage Pavilion.
Faulk is a local food writer, hostess and entertainer who blogs at
SomeKindaGood.org, and writes a bi-monthly food column which appears on the front page of the Lifestyles section in the
Statesboro Herald every other Sunday. Ranked number 2 on Urbanspoon’s leaderboard of Top Georgia Food Blogs,
Some Kinda Good is a Southern, coastal blog highlighting East coast restaurant reviews and Low Country-inspired recipes, with a focus on Statesboro’s food scene. In addition, Faulk appeared as a season 2 contestant on ABC’s reality cooking competition, “The Taste,” and represented Georgia as a part of “Dr. Oz’s Nationwide Healthy Recipe Challenge” in January 2014. She also serves as co-executive producer and host of “
Statesboro Cooks,” a 30-minute cable television cooking program produced by students in the Department of Communication Arts at Georgia Southern University.
“Julia Child said, ‘Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it,’ said Faulk. “This is my mantra, and I hope you’ll join me at the Garden as I share my story of pursuing passions and going after the things that make your heart beat. I’m super excited to cook for and meet all of you.”
Faulk will serve her Wild Georgia Shrimp and Grits with a white wine sauce, and discuss tips on how to cook seasonally and where to shop locally, as well as her journey from Statesboro to a Hollywood sound stage. Learn more about Faulk by visiting her
website.
In addition, cookbook author Martha Nesbit will be the featured talent at the Garden’s Oct. 30 Lunch and Learn event. Nesbit served as food editor, columnist and restaurant reviewer for the
Savannah Morning News for 25 years and has been a regular food columnist for
Savannah Magazine since 1998. She collaborated with Paula Deen on four cookbooks and authored a number of her own, including the popular
Savannah Celebrations. Nesbit will discuss her cooking and writing influences including some of the great chefs of
the world. Lunch will feature a selection of dishes from her cookbook,
Savannah Celebrations.
