Office of Orientation and Parent Programs Hosts Annual Fall Family Weekend

gameday_mayday 390x270The Office of Orientation and Parent Programs has partnered with the City of Statesboro to host Georgia Southern University’s annual Fall Family Weekend Friday, Sept. 26 – Sunday, Sept. 28. “We have been collaborating with the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Statesboro to plan and expand upon existing community events welcoming Georgia Southern families,” said Logan Franks, coordinator of Orientation and Parent Programs. “The goal is to help our parent and family members along with their students, understand all that Statesboro can offer while showing off our mutually beneficial relationship.” Typically, Fall Family Weekend is held around a home football game and involves a Saturday tailgate. This year’s game will be held on Thursday night against Appalachian State; however, a unique and exciting event will be held in downtown Statesboro in conjunction with the Farmers Market on Saturday, Sept. 27. Fall Family Weekend guests will be transported to the new home of the Statesboro Convention & Visitors Bureau on South Main Street starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. They will walk down Main Street to Vine Street, turning right to enter the area occupied by the Farmers Market. Vine Street will be open to pedestrian traffic only and will be lined by tables for community vendors and Georgia Southern organizations. These tables will continue all the way down Vine Street with a stage featuring live music in the parking lot of the building occupying City Campus. Eagle Creek Brewery will also be open from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Additional programming will take place in the Emma Kelly Theatre and a special Kids’ Zone will be on the Courthouse lawn. “We hope that you all can come out and join us for this wonderful event,” said Franks.
