Georgia Southern Student Takes on the House of Representatives

From the Bahamas to Georgia and Now to the White House

GS Student Stanley Miller with Rep. David Scott Georgia Southern sophomore Stanley Miller is currently serving as an intern for U.S. Congressman David Scott, D-Atlanta, until May. A transfer from the College of The Bahamas, Miller could not be happier with his choice to become part of the Eagle Nation. He knew he wanted to be involved with a University that has a credible communications program, and he realized early on that Georgia Southern was without a doubt the university for him. "I also chose [Georgia Southern] because of its location.” Miller said.  “Even though it is located in a small town, it is still close to major cities like Atlanta with great journalism and public relations career opportunities.” The public relations student began his internship in January of this year. He has been able to apply both his passion for public relations and journalism to his experiences so far. “One of the things I love about Public Relations and Journalism is that they are very diverse fields,” Miller said. “I can use my skills in those areas in government and the corporate world. As a PR major, it is vital that I am able to communicate effectively. My internship has helped me to enhance my communication skills and network with great people.” Miller has had the opportunity to interact with Congressmen Kevin Yoder, R-Kan., and Rick Allen, R-Ga., as well as Congresswomen Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., Alma Adams, D-N.C., and Mia Love, R-Utah. He has also met Congressman and Civil Rights legend John Lewis, D-Ga., among other prestigious members of the House of Representatives, Senate and White House. “I have made life-long friends here and would not trade this experience for anything,” Miller said.  “I am more than grateful for this opportunity.” Miller is most looking forward to continuing on in his internship and eventually becoming an executive for a PR firm and an international journalist in print or broadcast.
