Georgia Southern Honors 59 Faculty and Staff at Retirees Recognition Ceremony
March 30, 2015

Georgia Southern recognized 59 faculty and staff members at the annual Retirees Recognition Ceremony, held on Tuesday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Builders of the University Terrace.
The event recognizes those who have either retired since the last ceremony or announced their retirement this year. University administration including University President Brooks A. Keel, Ph.D. were on hand to celebrate the service of these faculty and staff.
“Georgia Southern would not be the university we are without you,” Keel said to the retirees in attendance. “There is no way we can thank you enough for your service.”

Among this year’s retirees were three faculty and staff, who all served 33 years at Georgia Southern, arriving on campus in 1982. They are: Dr. Sue Moore, professor of anthropology; Diana McDaniel, Bursar’s Office; and Lt. Floyd Bragg, Public Safety.
When asked what had changed the most since their arrival, both Moore and McDaniel noted the rise of the student population and campus, which McDaniel said has “grown by leaps and bounds.” When asked what they enjoyed most about working at Georgia Southern, both said it was the people -- colleagues and students -- that made the job enjoyable.
“It was nice to walk across the campus and have folks say, ‘Hi’ -- both students and employees,” said McDaniel. “I always waved to employees and said, ‘Hi’ when they drove by.”
In retirement, McDaniel said she plans to visit her grandchildren often and continue her volunteer work with the Girl Scouts. For Moore, retirement will offer her more time to write and continue her studies with the Camp Lawton site and another archaeological dig in South Carolina.
