University Gallery Showcases Student Work in April

Works of Art in Georgia Southern Gallery The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) will present the ninth annual juried student exhibition, “FOUNDATIONS: Form and Content,” April 3-19, in the University Gallery. The exhibit will showcase the exemplary work produced by students taking art foundations courses. On Friday, April 3, the Gallery will host a reception and awards presentation from 5 to 7 p.m. in order to recognize these students and their work. All events are free and open to the public. All BFSDoArt students pursuing a major in studio arts are required to take foundation courses that include drawing, two-dimensional design and three-dimensional design. The coursework that comprises the foundations program is extremely rigorous and helps to create the solid  infrastructure needed for a career in the fine arts. The mission of the exhibition is to honor the  efforts of the outstanding beginning art students, as well as to demonstrate the expectations placed on future students at BFSDoArt. The juror for this exhibition is Donald Martin, professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. He  received his MFA from the University of Massachusetts and completed postgraduate studies at The Rhode Island School of Design. Martin served as chair of the art department for Flagler College from 1999-2004 and Foundations Coordinator from 2004-2009. His work is widely featured in public and private collections and exhibitions across the country as well as national and international publications. He teaches drawing, illustration and 2-Dimensional Design. Undergraduate students with exemplary work from Foundations level classes have been invited to submit up to five artworks from their studio classes. Art foundation courses include Drawing I, Drawing II, 2-Dimensional Design and 3-Dimensional Design. Awards will be presented for Best in Show, Best in 2-D Design, Best in 3-D Design, Best in Drawing I and Best in Drawing II.
