Safety Week Set for June 20-24

Georgia Southern's Safety Week is set for June 20-24 and the Department of Human Resources is offering several classes for faculty and staff. Representatives from the Department will also be out and about on campus during Safety Week giving out prizes to employees practicing safety on campus, and to those who can answer safety questions correctly. Prizes include cooling towels, first aid kits and other giveaways. To sign up for any of the sessions below, visit

Safety Week Classes
1. Active Shooter Training
Presented by Public Safety in Nessmith-Lane Conference Center - Auditorium
June 20, 1-2 p.m.
This is an Active Shooter training class hosted by Georgia Southern University Public Safety. The program we teach is the ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events.
2. Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Training
Nessmith-Lane Conference Center - Room 2905
June 21, 1-2 p.m.
A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a technique that focuses on job tasks as a way to identify hazards before they occur. A Job Safety Analysis can help prevent workplace injuries by looking at operations, creating proper job procedures and making sure all employees are trained properly.
The class will cover the following:
- What is a JSA?
- What goes into developing a JSA?
- Importance of a JSA
3. DOAS Driver Awareness Training
Nessmith-Lane Conference Center - Auditorium
June 22, 10-11:30 a.m.
The State Safety Officer and the State Fleet Director are presenting a Safety and Coverage training at your location. Bring in all of your drivers (occasional or daily), anyone that oversees those employees, and anyone that is involved with your vehicles, or drives on state business for this 90 minute presentation.

4. Starting a Safety Committee

Developing a safety committee at the workplace is an important step to monitoring job safety, increasing employee participation in preventing accidents and encouraging a culture of safety at the workplace. This class is intended to provide ideas on how to setup a safety committee.
