Honors students present at GURC

With support from Professor Daniel R. Czech, Ph.D., in the College of Health and Human Science, five students in the School of Health and Kinesiology Honors Program attended, presented and received feedback on their research at the Georgia Undergraduate Research Conference (GURC) held at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, on Nov. 4 and 5. The following students presented their research:
  • Eva Blais: “Effect of Static Stretching on Proprioception and Muscle Power Production”
  • Chelsea Rodriguez: “An Examination of Goal Orientation and Motivational Climates between Race and School Classification of Millennial Students”
  • Lacey Dennis: “Effects of Static Stretching on Pennation Angle and Muscle Power Production in the Gastrocnemius Muscle”
  • Molly McLaughlin: “Reliability of Pennation Angle Measurements at Various Degrees of Plantar Flexion”
  • Diana Tyler: “Reliability of Gastrocnemius Muscle Pennation Angle Measured by Ultrasound in Standing Position”
The students who attended GURC applied for and received funding through the University’s Honors Program to attend the conference. Universities in attendance included Georgia Southern University, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia College, Emory University, Mercer University, University of West Georgia, Kennesaw State University and Valdosta State University. “To enjoy a different campus and present my research with other Honors students was a great experience for me,” Rodriguez, a junior exercise science major, said. The GURC is considered the Southeast’s preeminent regional research and creative endeavors conference. “Attending the conference was a fun, exciting experience in an intellectual atmosphere where I could share my research ideas,” said McLaughlin, senior exercise science major. “It was great to see our Honors students shining in an environment where Georgia’s top student scholars were ever present,” added Czech.
