Students participate in undergraduate research program at Georgia Southern

Eight outstanding scholars from throughout the region participated in a 10-week, research-intensive program, CollaborativE Multidisciplinary Investigations through Undergraduate Research Experiences (CEMITURE), at Georgia Southern University this summer. CEMITURE at Georgia Southern is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Division of Chemistry (CHE). Participants work directly with faculty mentors on research that addresses a number of problems that are highly relevant to our society. These projects are based in chemistry, biology, engineering and materials science. The program also includes professional development sessions for enhancing participants’ career preparation, scientific communication, leadership and ethics. More than 200 national scholars applied for the 2017 program. The selected participants researched everything from food safety and toxicology to biomedical and aerospace applications.
