College of Health and Human Sciences recognizes dietetic internship students

[caption id="attachment_7512" align="aligncenter" width="608"] Students in the College of Health and Human Sciences pose for a photo at the Dietetic Internship Pinning Ceremony.[/caption] On July 22, the College of Health and Human Science’s Dietetic Internship (DI) program hosted its third annual pinning ceremony at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center. The ceremony is held annually to recognize those who have successfully completed the DI program in the School of Health and Kinesiology. To successfully complete the DI program, students had to complete 13 hours of graduate level coursework, and a minimum of 1,200 hours of supervised practice experience to include working on a farm, in a school system and in a clinical setting. Approximately 90 guests, including friends, families, dietetic interns, preceptors and Georgia Southern University faculty and staff, were in attendance. During the ceremony, dietetic interns were presented with a certificate, a verification statement of program completion required to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration examination for dietitians, and an official registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) pin from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In 2014, Georgia Southern University established the DI program and accepted its first class of 20 dietetic interns. The program admits a maximum 20 dietetic interns annually and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
