Georgia Southern’s Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting its inaugural SGA week, titled “ISSA WEEK,” in an effort to increase visibility of SGA and engage more students in important topics for personal and professional growth. The official purpose of SGA Week is to augment and promote an inclusive collegiate culture through engagement, diversity awareness and the advancing of school spirit. SGA will bring together various student organizations to allow campus to see different takes on specific topics, ideas, beliefs and traditions. “The idea came to me last semester when I noticed that every other organization on campus had a week dedicated to their cause and philanthropy,” said SGA Senator Chance Shelton. “I asked [SGA President] Dylan [John] ‘Why doesn't SGA have one?’ He then replied with the simple comment of ‘Create one!’ This idea became my Senator Individual project for Fall 2017 and is the perfect way end my term with a bang because of my December graduation.” Each day of ISSA SGA WEEK has a different theme, and SGA has put together resources for students to participate in discussions and different activities for topics ranging from empowerment, community service and professionalism. The schedule is as follows:
  • Empowerment Panel at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 6, in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room
  • Mentoring Day at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 7, in Russell Union room 2047
  • Professionalism Day at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 8, in the Russell Union Ballroom
  • Eagles for Eagles Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 9, at the Russell Union Rotunda
  • SGA’s Day of Service from noon to 3 p.m., Nov. 10, at the Russell Union Rotunda
