Georgia Southern Legal Affairs joins Legal Food Frenzy to prevent child hunger
April 23, 2018

One in four children in Georgia are at risk for hunger. Georgia Southern’s Office of Legal Affairs is helping these children by joining legal organizations across the state in the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy. The food drive and fundraising competition is timed to meet the increased summer demand of the more than 60 percent of Georgia’s public school children who are eligible for free or reduced lunch. When school is not in session, these children find themselves in need.
Throughout the drive, the Office of Legal Affairs will be collecting canned and non-perishable food donations as well as financial donations. All donations remain with the local food bank, America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
Food items can be dropped off during business hours until April 27 in room 1005 of the Marvin Pittman Administration Building on the Statesboro Campus or in room 106 in Burnett Hall on the Armstrong Campus.
Food items (in metal, cardboard, paper or plastic containers) needed are:
- Peanut butter
- Canned tuna
- Canned beans
- Canned soups
- Stews
- Pastas
- 100 percent fruit juice
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Macaroni and cheese dinners
- Whole grains
- Low sugar, boxed cereals
Financial donations can be given in person (made payable to America’s second Harvest of Coastal Georgia) or
online. Mention Georgia Southern University Office of Legal Affairs in the tribute section of the donation form.
For every $1 raised, the food bank can distribute approximately $8-9 worth of groceries back into the community. These efforts truly make a difference in children’s lives.
