Residential Learning Community faculty member receives inaugural award

Georgia Southern University chemistry and biochemistry lecturer Ria Ramoutar, Ph. D., received the first Residential Learning Communities Advisory Board Member of the Year award. Ramoutar received the honor at the 2018 Lab End of Year Celebration and Awards Banquet. The award was given based on her dedication to the academic success of the students of the Lab Living- Learning Community (LCC), a residential community for first year College of Science and Mathematics students. “Whether arranging field trips to the Georgia Cancer Center, helping students with local service projects or teaching the Lab LLC First Year Experience class, Dr. Ramoutar is one of the University Housing’s best campus partners,” said University Housing. Residential Learning Communities offer students the ability to participate in a LLC or a Theme Community (TC) to provide residents a supportive environment as they transition to college. LLC’s are composed of students in similar academic programs. TC’s are composed of students who share a common interest or identity.
