Jay Hodgson named first coordinator of Center for Sustainability on Armstrong Campus

Georgia Southern has named Jay Hodgson, Ph.D., the first coordinator of the Center for Sustainability on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah. Hodgson, Ph.D., associate professor of biology and nine-year member of the Armstrong Campus faculty, will begin in this new role in August 2018. With support from the College of Science and Mathematics, Hodgson will lead academic sustainability efforts on the Armstrong Campus with new programming and initiatives. “As an ecologist, understanding our position in the environment and conserving natural resources are passions of mine,” said Hodgson. “I am excited to help bring the sustainability initiative to the Armstrong Campus and am looking forward to the opportunity of working with everyone involved.” Since 2013, the Center for Sustainability has been supported primarily by a Student Sustainability Fee and has brought world-class sustainability speakers and programming to the Statesboro Campus. The addition of a coordinator on the Armstrong Campus will allow for expansion of these programs and development of new initiatives, which will be unique to the Savannah market. “We are thrilled to be able bring the Center’s sustainability efforts to the Armstrong Campus and look forward to working with Dr. Hodgson to develop new opportunities for the new Georgia Southern,” said Lissa Leege, Ph.D., director of the Center for Sustainability. Recently recognized as one of six post-secondary institutions to receive the 2018 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School Award, Georgia Southern is nationally recognized for its dedication to sustainability.
