Georgia Southern Master of Health Services Administration students awarded scholarships

Georgia Southern University Master of Health Services Administration students, Jody Kinnes and Ashley Jacob, were named the 2018 Institute for Diversity and Health Equity American Hospital Association (AHA) Leadership Summit Scholarship winners. Ten students from across the country, including Kinnes and Jacob, were selected as Summer Enrichment Program interns and will be given the opportunity to attend the 2018 AHA Leadership Summit, where health care leaders will discuss the critical issues facing their industry and strategies for enhancing the value and quality of health care. The Summer Enrichment Program, which is sponsored by the AHA, places minority students in paid internships with healthcare organizations across the country. Kinnes, who is from Jackson, Tennessee, said he is looking forward to the new experience of attending the summit in California. “Not only is this my first leadership conference, but also my first time going to San Diego,” Kinnes said. “It feels great to be attending a prestigious event such as the AHA Leadership Summit due to the fruition of my constant work ethic.” To be selected for the scholarship, individuals submitted an application that included a letter of recommendation and a one-page essay on why they should receive the scholarship. The scholarship covers registration for the AHA Leadership Summit, hotel and airfare. The summit will be held July 26 through 28 in San Diego. Jacob, from Gwinnett County, said she is looking forward to the networking opportunities at the summit. “I am ecstatic about being named a recipient of this scholarship,” Jacob said. “Being able to attend the AHA Leadership Summit will provide me with a chance to network with top health care leaders in the field and hear from several keynote speakers offering insight and ideas, which will equip me to lead transformation in organizations I will manage in the near future.” The Summer Enrichment Program aims to expand health care leadership opportunities for ethnically, culturally and racially diverse individuals with a goal to increase the number of individuals entering and advancing in the field.
