FTLOB support relieves students’ financial burdens

Doctoral student and scholarship recipient Phil Miller is grateful for his educational opportunities at Georgia Southern.
Not only is he appreciative of the accessibility of faculty in his physical therapy academic program, but he’s also thankful for the flexibility of faculty while he and his peers learn during a pandemic.
“The curriculum is challenging, and the current pandemic has not made life any easier,” he said. “Thankfully, the professors have accommodated our needs, making themselves available as much as possible to ensure we understand the material thoroughly. Without their work, I don’t think my classmates and I would be able to do as well as we are now.”
Miller also relocated to the area to complete his program, which came with a separate set of challenges. But thanks to the support of generous donors, Miller is less worried about financial obligations and able to focus on his studies.
“As an out-of-state student in a graduate program, finances are near the forefront of my concerns,” Miller said. “As much as I try to forget about the expenses, you eventually have to deal with the reality of the situation. Being awarded scholarships is truly a blessing as it allows me to worry less about those financial challenges and more about learning how to be the best clinician I can be.
“Thank you, Georgia Southern, for giving me the opportunity to advance myself in my profession and as a person.”
