Eagle Experience updates for University partners
Spring 2022 is on the horizon and The Eagle Experience initiative will continue to impact student transition to Georgia Southern. We invite you to actively participate! Read below to learn about what our students thought of their early transition this fall and how you can be involved in the future.
While The Eagle Experience is an ongoing initiative that aids in new student transition year-round, we are currently focusing on programming at the start of the spring semester: Jan. 6-17, 2022. Residence halls will open on Thursday, Jan. 6, and classes begin Monday, Jan. 10.
What Did Our Students Think of Summer & Fall Programming?
Campus departments played a significant role in the success of the inaugural Eagle Experience. Students surveyed shared how YOU made a difference.
- They felt prepared to succeed, manage obstacles, and ready to engage in the offerings available to them at Georgia Southern.
- They are confident in faculty and staff who are there to support their academic and co-curricular success and in their ability to access resources for a successful start.
- They have strong feelings of being valued, having a sense of belonging, and optimism about being connected in their local communities.

Recap of Summer/Fall 2021 Programming
Over 200 events/programs/initiatives became part of the August 2021 calendar including:
- open houses, meet and greets
- interactive activities unique to the focus area of the department
- unique experiences students may not have had before
- receptions for diverse groups
- social gatherings that involved art, music, movies, and meeting others
A common denominator with all events is that they aided in establishing a connection with staff, faculty, members of the community, and fellow students, and helped to create a sense of community and acceptance.
Spring 2022 Programming
We continue to be led by committees with over 40 students, faculty, and staff who guide decision making, event logistics, and scheduling. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help!
- Do you have existing programming that is appropriate for new students (or students who joined this summer/fall and are continuing to the spring) and would aid in their successful transition to Georgia Southern?
- Do you want to plan and implement a new program that can aid in new student transition?
If you said yes to either of those two questions, let us know! We can help communicate and advertise your events to our students. Remember: Eagle Engage is Key. In an effort to make the process more streamlined and easier for campus departments to participate, see these Programming Submission Guidelines/Instructions. These instructions provide a roadmap to assist in program submission as well as important dates/deadlines to help you plan.
If you have questions regarding Spring 2022 submissions for The Eagle Experience or using Eagle Engage*, please contact any one of us listed below.
What's Next? Looking Forward to Summer/Fall 2022
Our steering committee and planning teams will start actively planning for next summer and fall very soon. Know that your feedback will be integral to how the start of fall term is coordinated and how we communicate and work with you as university partners. We are excited about the new ideas that came forward to be more intentional in our programming!
