Volunteer as a Resident Scholar for spring Alternative Break trips

The Office of Leadership and Community Engagement is accepting applications from faculty, staff and graduate students to volunteer as a Resident Scholar on spring Alternative Break trips March 12-17.

Alternative Breaks are unique volunteer experiences in which a group of students and one professional Resident Scholar travel to another community and volunteer with a nonprofit organization over spring break. Serving as a Resident Scholar is an incredible professional development opportunity and provides an unparalleled way to connect with students outside of the office or classroom. Another bonus: Resident Scholars get to go for free.

“I recently attended Alternative Winter Break as a Resident Scholar in Pittsboro, North Carolina, where we volunteered with Carolina Tiger Rescue,” said Kasie Thompson, Alternative Breaks coordinator. “I spent the week volunteering at the rescue, playing games and sharing meals with an amazing group of students. It was an exceptional week that reinvigorated my passion for working with college students.”

For Spring Break 2023, there are  two group trips planned. One will work with a nonprofit that will be doing natural disaster clean-up and the other will work with a nonprofit focusing on children’s health and family care.
