Doctor of Physical Therapy students represent Georgia Southern at the Georgia Capitol
Twenty-three students from Georgia Southern University's Doctor of Physical Therapy class of 2024 recently joined other physical therapy students across Georgia for Physical Therapy Day at the Capitol in Atlanta.
This one-day event allows individuals to participate in activities at the state capitol demonstrating the physical therapy profession's strong presence in Georgia. Participants also have an opportunity to advocate for change related to current issues affecting the physical therapy practice.
"This event is important for students for several reasons, but mainly because it gives students perspective regarding the legislative processes that drive our profession and shape how we practice physical therapy in the state of Georgia," stated Ian Allen, DPT, visiting instructor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. "As future clinicians, it is also important to understand the current practice act as well as the direction of the profession within the state as they consider employment opportunities after graduation."
Attendees were updated on the Georgia Chapter of American Physical Therapy Association's current legislative priorities, which is centered around increasing all Georgian's direct access to physical therapy services.
