Georgia Southern University police officer recognized by local, state VFW

Georgia Southern University Police Corporal Katie Hodges (‘20) was recently recognized for heroic service in the line of duty by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Georgia.
She was presented with a certificate of appreciation by Dean Rakoskie, state commander of the VFW Department of Georgia, for her unyielding adherence to the highest ideals of law enforcement in maintaining, preserving and protecting the lawful rights of all citizens. The recognition comes from Hodges’ quick actions in saving the life of a drowning woman on campus last year.
“It was just a normal day on the job,” Hodges said. “To receive recognition means a lot, because I didn’t expect any of this when I did what I did. Georgia Southern is like home to me and I feel really honored to be recognized for my work in this community.”
University Chief of Police Laura McCullough believes the recognition is well deserved.
“Our officers work hard every day to not only be great police officers, but great representatives of the University,” McCullough said. “I’m really glad to see people outside of the University system who recognize the hard work of our officers and the great service they provide to our community.”
