Just Walk Out technology by Amazon coming to Russell Union on Statesboro Campus
GUS Mart in the Russell Union on the Statesboro Campus will soon operate a bit differently as it is being converted to use Just Walk Out (JWO) technology by Amazon.
Just Walk Out (JWO) is a new shopping experience that lets customers enter the store, grab what they want and keep going. Customers enter the store using their credit card, shop and pick up the items they would like to purchase. Amazon technologies calculate the cost of their items when customers exit the store.
“Auxiliary Services and the Division of Business and Finance at Georgia Southern University are always looking for ways to innovate campus services and provide students, faculty,staff and members of our campus community with an easier, more effective way to use our facilities,” said Michael Murphy, director of Campus Services. “JWO technology transforms the GUS Mart space and allows customers to walk in and walk out with ease. Instead of taking five minutes to grab a fountain drink, getting in there and waiting in line to pay, you can now walk in, grab your drink and leave, reducing your time in the space and giving you more time to complete your daily tasks. It's a more convenient way of being a convenience store.”
Fountain drinks, grab-and-go items and other favorites from the previous GUS Mart should still be available. Auxiliary Services anticipates the reopening of the store in Fall 2023.
