Georgia Southern kinesiology professor speaks at exclusive international coaching academy

Charles "Hal" Wilson, Jr., Ph.D., coordinator of the coaching education master’s program in the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University, recently spoke to coaches and administrators from nine different countries across three continents after receiving an invitation from the International Coaches Academy (ICA) in Xenia, Ohio.
The ICA, an invite-only, 10-day event that takes place at Athletes in Action's World Training and Resource Center, blends coaching instruction, leadership development and cultural experience.
This was the 14th consecutive year the ICA has provided world-class instruction in a collaborative learning environment for coaches working with limited resources.
"It was an honor to be a part of this amazing ICA program,” Wilson said. “It reinforced the truth that sport has the power to unite people even when we don't share the same language or culture.”
Wilson spoke to attendees on “Positive Legacy Leadership: The 3Ms of Coaching” and led an on-the-court session on zone basketball defense principles.
Sharing Georgia Southern's work in coaching education with people from across the globe who also value the ability to grow, refine and champion athletes on the court, in their homes and within their communities is important to Wilson.
“It was amazing to see authentic bonds being formed and real challenges being addressed,” he said. “I loved sharing about the work being done in Coaching Education at Georgia Southern."
This opportunity was supported by a grant from the Georgia Southern Faculty Development Committee and Athletes in Action.
