Joseph Kardouni, Ph.D., associate professor and executive director of the Tactical and Occupational Performance (TOP) Institute in the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University, has been elected the next president of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Federal, one of 18 specialty sections of APTA. 

Kardouni currently serves as the organization’s vice president and will begin his role as president Jan. 1.

APTA Federal represents physical therapy professionals serving across the nation’s federal health care systems, including the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs and Public Health Service. The section works to advance provider collaboration, clinical practice, education and advocacy for active-duty service members, veterans and federal health beneficiaries.

As president, Kardouni will help guide strategic initiatives, expand professional development opportunities and foster collaboration across federal agencies to support the delivery of essential care to those who serve and have served the nation.

Throughout his career, Kardouni has been dedicated to improving musculoskeletal rehabilitation, operational readiness and interdisciplinary care within military and federal health systems. His election as president signals continued national leadership in strengthening physical therapy practice within federal health care environments.
