Armstrong Campus Student Union now under leadership of Student Union Facilities and Event Services

Management and leadership of the Student Union on the Armstrong Campus has transitioned to the Department of Student Union Facilities and Event services, led by Director Marcya Barreiro. Student Union Facilities and Event Services, which is housed in the Division of Student Affairs, also oversees facility management of the Russell Union and the Williams Center in Statesboro.

The transition in leadership has been developing over the last few months, and these changes will offer a dedicated staff member to directly oversee operations along with a stronger alignment of personnel and department strengths.

Operations for the Armstrong Campus Student Union will evolve under new leadership with a strong focus on customer service for students, faculty, staff and the local community along with identifying facility and operational efficiencies.  This transition will bring new opportunities to students visiting the Student Union at the Armstrong Campus as well as Student Union Facilities and Event Services.

A full-time coordinator position is currently in the advanced employment search phase, and this position will be the staff member directly overseeing day-to-day operations for the Student Union at the Armstrong Campus.  This coordinator’s duties include supervision of student staff, event assistance and communication with clients, building and facility management, budget management, and coordination with campus partners.

Management of the Armstrong Campus Student Union was previously directly overseen by Ken Gassiot, Ph.D., associate vice president for student engagement, since September 2018 with Russell Union staff assisting in client communication and space reservation needs.
