Mental Health Counselor Keith Gunnerson published in scholarly journal

Keith Gunnerson, Ph.D.

Keith Gunnerson, Ph.D., a mental health counselor at the University’s Counseling Center on the Statesboro Campus, recently published his research in the scholarly journal, Counselling & Psychotherapy Research.

Gunnerson is a co-author of "It's not what you said, it's how you said it: An analysis of therapist vocal features during psychotherapy.” Gunnerson and his fellow researchers explored how therapists change the sound and volume of their voice and rate of speaking throughout a session with clients.

Through their research, the authors found these results were in line with the hypothesis that therapists are initially more conversational with clients, then toward the working part of a session begin using a "therapy voice," and then end a session in a more conversational style.
