Georgia Southern students ‘stand up’ to Parkinson’s Disease

Students and faculty in the Georgia Southern University RiteCare Center for Communication Disorders stood up to Parkinson’s disease during the “Sit 2 Stand” challenge posed by Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) Global.
In collaboration with Neuro Heroes, Rock Steady Boxing, Uturn Parkinson’s and PD Avengers, LSVT Global challenged individuals from around the country to sit down and stand up as many times as they could in a 24-hour period to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease.
Communication sciences and disorders graduate students and clinical instructors participated and contributed more than 1,700 “sit to stands” toward the goal of 1 million.
Parkinson’s disease, a disorder of the nervous system that affects movement, affects more than 1 million people in the United States. The 1 million sit to stand goal represented those living with Parkinson’s disease.
