Important payroll fraud alert from Human Resources
Over the last two pay dates, USG employees have experienced an increasing number of cybersecurity attacks. These attacks include cybercriminals using phishing emails to gain access to an employee’s credentials and make changes to direct deposit/banking information.
The University advises faculty and staff to be extra careful while reviewing your emails and be sure to not click on embedded links asking you to validate your USG credentials or your network credentials at Georgia Southern. Be on alert for any emails asking you to take urgent action that have incorrect spelling or grammatical errors or have an unfamiliar email address.
If you have fallen victim to this scheme due to your own actions please report theft to law enforcement. If the loss is due to an employee’s negligence then Georgia Southern cannot pay an employee twice. If you receive any suspicious emails or think you may have clicked on a malicious link please report it immediately to IT Helpdesk at (912) 478-2287 or IT Security at security@georgiasouthern.edu.
USG has implemented multi-factor authentication (MFA) for additional protection against cyber attacks. Please ensure that any pushes or approvals were originated by you. Likewise, never enter a MFA code along with your username and password after clicking a suspicious link. If you receive repeated pushes or attempts for approvals that were not initiated by you, report them immediately to the IT Helpdesk at (912)478-2287 or IT Security at security@georgiasouthern.edu.
The University kindly asks all faculty and staff to please review your personal information and all components of your pay for each pay period through OneUSG connect self-service.
