Georgia Southern supports community in aftermath of Hurricane Helene

Thank you to all of the members of Eagle Nation who stepped in to support our communities in the wake of Hurricane Helene!

Dining

Our incredible dining staff worked throughout the recovery to keep Eagle Nation fed after Hurricane Helene. We were able to provide more than 28,800 meals through the Statesboro Dining Commons and the Armstrong Galley from Sept. 30 through Oct. 6.

Lodging for Linemen

Our teams organized the Armstrong Recreation Center to support roughly 500 linemen as they worked tirelessly to restore power to our communities after Hurricane Helene.

University Police Department

Director of Emergency Management Erick Riner worked diligently to coordinate response efforts. Deputy Chief Gracen, Sergeant Alderman, Officer Brooks and Officer Moulton assisted Georgia Power line crews in Bulloch County as they worked to get our region back online.

Volunteers

Our students, faculty, staff and student-athletes stepped in where help was needed throughout the community to assist with clean-up, meals and more.

Facilities, Housing, Athletics and more

Our facilities teams worked to reset campus and our Housing teams continued to support our on-campus students in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Athletics was able to provide 3,000 pounds of ice to the community. Showers were made available at the Statesboro Recreation Activities Center to support individuals without power and water. We sent buses to East Georgia State College to transport and then housed 70 students displaced by the storm.
