Celebrating First-Gen Week at Georgia Southern University
Georgia Southern University will celebrate First-Gen Week Nov. 4-8, honoring the dedication and accomplishments of our first-generation students, faculty and staff. This annual celebration is about recognizing those who are the first in their families to attend college and providing support and resources to help them thrive.
Monday, Nov. 4 – Armstrong Campus Celebration & Holiday Helper Tree Kickoff in Statesboro
From 10 to 11 a.m., stop by the Russell Union for the kickoff of the Holiday Helper Tree, where you can contribute to the season of giving by supporting those in need.
On the Armstrong Campus, First-Gen Week kicks off with a Celebration Cookout. Stop by Compass Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enjoy food, connect with other first-gen students and meet faculty and staff who share this experience.
Tuesday, Nov. 5 – Statesboro Campus Celebration Cookout
Join the Celebration Cookout at the Williams Center Patio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is a time to relax, enjoy some food and connect with others in the first-gen community. Whether you're a first-gen student, faculty or staff member, this is a chance to come together in support of each other.
Wednesday, Nov. 6 – Liberty Campus Celebration & Holiday Helper Tree Kickoff in Savannah
The Holiday Helper Tree will kick off at the Armstrong Campus in Savannah at the Student Union from 10 to 11 a.m., offering a second opportunity to get involved in spreading holiday cheer.
The festivities continue on the Liberty Campus in Hinesville with a Celebration Cookout at the Student Complex from 3 to 5 p.m., where first-gen attendees and supporters can enjoy food and networking.
Thursday, Nov. 7 – First-Gen at Unity Fest in Savannah
The Armstrong Campus will be abuzz from 3 to 5 p.m. with Unity Fest, where the First-Gen community will be tabling to provide resources, share experiences and spread awareness about the unique challenges and successes of being first-gen. Don’t miss out on this exciting event that brings together students from all backgrounds.
Friday, Nov. 8 – First-Generation Student Day
In honor of National First-Generation Day, all first-gen faculty and staff are invited to show their pride by wearing their alma mater apparel. Not only does this day serve as a meaningful reminder of how far first-gen students and professionals have come, but it is also a time to celebrate these achievements with the community and to find resources to support them every step of the way.
