Tamerah Hunt, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University, has been awarded the 2025 Sista-Keeper Award from The Sistahood, a professional network dedicated to empowering ethnically diverse women in sports-related careers.

Hunt, who has been involved with The Sistahood since 2002, was recognized for her unwavering leadership, impactful advocacy and ongoing mentorship of women in the athletic training profession.

“Of all the awards, this award means so much to me because I am being recognized for doing something that I believe is an integral part of my life,” said Hunt. “I have been fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful, supportive family, great mentors, teachers and leaders. Mentors have provided the initial footsteps for me to follow while allowing me to create my path and obtain success. Now, I can come full circle and follow my passion to provide the same mentorship and leadership to those coming behind me. I am overwhelmingly honored to be recognized for being a mentor and leader to others.”

The Sista-Keeper Award is awarded annually to celebrate an individual who has gone above and beyond in nurturing, uplifting and empowering their fellow sisters in the athletic training profession.
