Georgia Southern and the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority to Host “Downtown Tailgate”

Georgia Southern University and the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority are hosting pre-game festivities from 6 to 8 p.m., October 8 for “Downtown Tailgate,” one of many events taking place in celebration of the annual Family Weekend. The Statesboro Courthouse lawn has been reserved for the event that captures the spirit and excitement of Georgia Southern University. 

Families, students, and alumni are invited to the pregame celebration that features live entertainment, food vendors and more. President Brooks Keel will join in the festivities, along with the Georgia Southern cheerleaders and GUS, who will lead the crowd with spirited cheers.  “Downtown Tailgate” marks the official Friday night block party that continues for the remainder of Georgia Southern home football games. 

Vendors including Doc & Dicie’s BBQ and Boyd’s BBQ will offer a variety of menu selections for sale at food booths , Latte Da Coffee Café will serve a variety of coffee and hot drinks, and a soft drink tent will also be on site. Also, guests are welcome to bring their own picnic dinners. 

During the festivities, tailgaters will enjoy a mix of country, Southern rock and more from Corey Smith and Jake Hallman. Smith has performed in a 48-state national tour, and both musicians have joined Georgia Southern alumnus and fellow musician Eric Lee Beddingfield on tour.

The outdoor celebration will be highlighted by WTOC-TV’s live broadcast of the Georgia Southern Tailgatin’ Show from 7:30 to 8 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn to discuss the matchup between the Eagles vs. Wofford College, on Saturday, October 9 at 6 p.m.

Future pregame tailgate celebrations will be held on October 29 before the Georgia Southern vs. Samford game and on November 5, preceding the Georgia Southern vs. Appalachian State game. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call (912)764-7227.
