It’s that time of the year again. Jack-o-lanterns are glowing, costumes are being chosen, and candy is abundant. That’s right, it’s Halloween! This year, Georgia Southern is offering many events and opportunities where students, faculty, staff, and members of the community can join in the fun and participate in the festivities.

 

Carve a Georgia Southern Themed Pumpkin 

 Show your Georgia Southern University spirit this Halloween!  Your pumpkin is the perfect way to show how “True Blue” you are. 

Visit www.georgiasouthern.edu/trueblue for official Georgia Southern patterns. When you’ve finished carving, take a picture and submit it to our “True Blue” photo contest.  

HALL-o-ween

Monday, October 25; 6:00-8:00 PM

Georgia Southern University and The National Residence Hall Honorary in partnership with University Housing and the Residence Hall Association are once again proud to provide a safe environment for the youth of Bulloch County and the surrounding area to trick or treat this Halloween. A carnival will be held in the clubhouse and courtyard of Eagle Village buildings 1 and 2. Activities include Trick or Treating on First Floors of Eagle Village 1 and 2, Haunted House in Eagle Village Clubhouse. Various Booths in Eagle Village Courtyard Including:

Face Painting, Beanbag Toss, Duck Pond Game, Washable Halloween Tattoo Parlor,

Creepy Guessing Box, Treat Bag Decorating, Cupcake Walk, Photo Booth, Pumpkin Painting, Cup of Dirt Snacks, Make Your Own Slime, Cookie Decorating, Pretty Ghouls Nail Salon, Mummy Toilet Paper Races. For questions, please contact Lynanne Hodges at (912) 478-1730.

Haunted Forest

October 25-30; 7 PM- 12 AM daily

Malecki Rd, Parking Available at Paulson Stadium

This Halloween, the Center for Addiction Recovery at Georgia Southern is proud to bring the Haunted Forest back for another year of spooky fun. The history of the Haunted Forest dates back to 1980, when GSU Professor “Mouse” Blankenbaker launched the event for the first time. Professor Blankenbaker, who taught Recreation and Leisure Studies, hosted the event with the help of the students in her Planning Program class. The forest was a phenomenal success and continued to be an annual occurrence until Professor Blankenbaker’s retirement in 2003. 

Last October, GSU’s Center for Addiction Recovery resurrected the forest after a six-year break. With the help of GSU students and local volunteers, the Haunted Forest was a success once again, and will celebrate another year of Halloween excitement this coming October. Many student organizations have jumped at the chance to help out with the event. Some of the groups involved this year are Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, The Gay and Straight Alliance, FYE classes, MAP Nursing students, and members from the club baseball team. Local organizations that have volunteered their time and services include Willingway Hospital, the RIP House, Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA), and the Boys and Girls Club of Statesboro, GA. 

Thanks to the help of community volunteers and the support of local Statesboro residents, the Haunted Forest is expected to be a hit once again this year. The Forest will open on Monday, October 25th and run through Saturday, October 30th. The forest will open at 8PM each night and close at midnight. For those who are easily spooked (or who have small children), a scaled-down version of the Haunted Forest will be provided from 7 – 8PM on Monday, October 25th. The Haunted Forest will feature six “Scare Stations” along the trail: body-snatching witches, a twisted insane asylum, demonic clowns, a Zombie Formal, militant cannibals, and a classic werewolf and vampire section. Other creepy surprises might be lurking in the forest, ready to terrify the passerby, so those who are brave enough should be prepared to be scared.

Cost of admission is $7 per person; children under 10 get in for free with a family member on Oct. 25th from 7pm-8pm. This year’s Haunted Forest will take place in a new location: the trail begins on Malecki Road, right next to the soccer field. Free parking is available in Paulson Stadium. Ghost Hunters Ashley Godwin and Matt Lawson

Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Auditorium

The Georgia Southern Department of Housing presents Ashley Godwin as seen on SyFy Channel’s Ghost Hunters International and special guest Matt Lawson, founder of the Atlanta Team for Paranormal Research (ATFPR). The event is FREE and open to the public.

Ashley, originally from Florida,currently resides in Savannah, Ga. She has been conducting paranormal investigations since 2006 and has been an investigator on Ghost Hunters International on the Syfy Channel since February 2009. Her first investigation with GHI was in Ireland.

Matt founded ATFPR in 2005. He has been investigating claims of ghost sightings for over 20 years and has been involved in over 100 investigations. He has appeared on numerous radio shows throughout the US discussing ghost investigating techniques and his experiences.

Greek Street Trick-or-Treat

Wednesday, October 27; 6:00- 8:00 PM

Bring your children to trick-or-treat on campus in a fun, safe environment. Walk down Olympic Boulevard “Greek Street” and collect candy, play games, and interact with students in Georgia Southern’s Greek Organizations. 

Pumpkin Carving sponsored by Eagle Entertainment

Wednesday, October 27; 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Get into the Halloween spirit and join Eagle Entertainment in the Annual Pumpkin Carving at the Rotunda. All supplies and pumpkins will be provided.  This event is open to the Georgia Southern University campus community. University Store Costume Contest

 Friday, October 29 from 9AM - 3PM

 It’s that time of year again, and The University Store invites you to enter their annual Halloween Costume Contest!  Open to Students, Faculty & Staff! To enter, stop by The University Store in your Halloween costume anytime between 9 AM and 3 PM to have your picture taken. Students will be judged individually, while Faculty/Staff will have the option to enter individually, or as a group (your office.)

PRIZES FOR BEST INDIVIDUAL STUDENT COSTUME:

Botanical Garden Haunted Forest

Friday, October 29; 5:00-9:00 PM

Come to  the Garden to enjoy a Boo Bash under the Heritage Pavilion and a harrowing hayride though the field of fright. Pre-K – 2nd graders can enjoy chilling crafts and ghoulish games in the haunted forest.  While 3rd- 8th grades can partake in the moonlit walk though the horror filled trails with scary creatures and goblins around every bend. Come see what all the screaming is about!

Rocky Horror Picture Show

ADMISSION IS FREE! This will be the most bizarre interactive theatrical experience you’ll ever experience and is sure to shock your socks off!  Be prepared to have a blast! PROOF OF ATTENDANCE WILL BE PROVIDED.

 

Downtown Tailgate

Friday, October 29; 6:00-8:00 PM

Georgia Southern University and the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority are hosting the “Downtown Tailgate” from 6 to 8 p.m., October 29 to gear up for the Georgia Southern vs. Samford game. Festivities will take place on the Courthouse lawn.

 

Families, students, and alumni are invited to the pregame celebration that features live entertainment, a variety of food vendors, face painting and more. There will also be a special preview of the “Square on the Square” Thriller Dance. Join the Georgia Southern cheerleaders and GUS, who will lead the crowd with spirited cheers. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic dinners. 

 

The outdoor celebration will be highlighted by WTOC-TV’s live broadcast of the Georgia Southern Tailgatin’ Show from 7:30 to 8 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn to discuss the matchup between the Eagles vs. Samford, on Saturday, October 

30 at 2 p.m. in Paulson Stadium

 

A future pre-game tailgate celebration will be held on November 5, preceding the Georgia Southern vs. Appalachian State game. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call (912) 764-7227.
