Dear Friend of the Georgia Southern University Museum:

You are cordially invited to a reception in honor of the Georgia Southern Museum’s re-accreditation by the American Association of Museums (AAM). Accreditation is the highest recognition afforded the nation's museums. Join us at the Museum at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 to celebrate this significant achievement and thank our Museum members, University faculty, staff, and students, Community Partners, AAM, Museum staff, and volunteers for their contributions to the Museum’s success.

Accreditation is a very rigorous process that examines all aspects of a Museum's operations. To earn accreditation, a Museum first conducts a year of self-study, and then undergoes a site visit by a team of peer reviewers. AAM's Accreditation Commission, an independent and autonomous body of Museum professionals, then considers the self-study and visiting committee report to determine whether a Museum should receive accreditation.

The Georgia Southern University Museum was first accredited in 1999 and now has been re-accredited signifying its excellence to the Museum community, governments, funders, outside agencies, and the Museum-going public.

As an important friend and supporter of the Museum, we hope you will join Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel and, by video, Mr. Ford W. Bell, President of the American Association of Museums to celebrate this achievement.
