Georgia Southern Receives Innovation Award for Hendricks Hall and Williams Center Renovations
Georgia Southern University has received the 2011 Innovation Award from the University System of Georgia’s 15th annual Facilities Officers Conference.
Georgia Southern’s selection was based on two projects. The first was the renovation of the circa 1958 Williams Center, which was the University’s former Student Union.
The other was the $6.4 million adaptive reuse of Hendricks Hall, a 28,767-square-foot, three-story structure built in 1963 as a dormitory and which now houses the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.
The main floor houses the Centers for Rural Health, Survey Research and Health Information and Addiction Recovery along with the Karl E. Peace Center for Biostatistics.
The second floor provides faculty offices and support areas. The third floor houses an administrative suite, large lecture hall, instructional labs and a Biosafety Level 1-2-3 laboratory suite for environmental health and epidemiology research.
According to the judging criteria: “The award is given to projects demonstrating originality and creativity. Characterized by ‘outside-the-box-thinking’ and ingenuity, this recipient clearly accomplishes the goal — but within an innovative manner. The recipient exudes excellence and quality work.”
