Annual Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony Honors 173 Employees
Georgia Southern University honored the contributions of staff members during the Annual Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony Feb. 1.
During the ceremony eight employees were selected as
Award of Merit recipients:

- Brandon Cox, Athletics - Game Operations, Facilities
- David Matthews, Counseling & Career Development
- Donna Orme, Information Systems Department
- Daisy Singletary, Physical Plant – Custodial Services
- John Tucker, Academic Technology Support
- Randy Walker, Physical Plant – Custodial Services
Award of Merit nominees are employees who have improved the work environment, exhibited excellent customer service and shown true character and dedication to Georgia Southern’s mission.
Award of Merit recipients are nominated by co-workers or supervisors and are chosen by The Staff Council. Winners each receive $1,000, a Georgia Southern Eagle Medallion or plaque and a certificate of appreciation. Awards of Merit are sponsored by Georgia Southern’s Staff Council. In addition, Fidelity Investments, Inc. and TIAA-CREF each sponsored one Award of Merit this year.
During the ceremony, the University also honored 173 staff members celebrating 1,950 years of continuous, full-time service.
Years of Service Award recipients each receive a
certificate of appreciation and a gift from The University Store.
Patricia McCubbins, who works as a cook at the on-campus Chick-fil-A was recognized

Georgia Southern employs 1,300 staff members and Staff Council is a collective voice for those who work in non-faculty employee roles. The council supports a variety of activities and initiatives to improve the quality of life and effectiveness of the University's dedicated and valuable staff, and hosts the Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony each year.
