National Society of Black Engineers Chapter Earns Recognition for Academic Achievement
The Georgia Southern University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBC) recently earned an award for Highest Small Chapter GPA in the Annual Mission and $5,000 at the 39th Annual Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. Additionally, Georgia Southern Chapter member Jada Herrington also was honored with the BP Scholar Award, a $2500 scholarship, for her outstanding academic accomplishments.
With more than 9,000 attendees, the Annual Convention recognizes excellence among technical professions, corporate, government and academic leaders in engineering as well as university and pre-collegiate students from all over the world.
Students and professionals took part in many workshops meant to strengthen both soft and technical skills while also having the opportunity to participate in one of the nation’s largest career fairs for minority students. This year’s Annual Convention featured speakers Roland Martin, Dr. Randal Pinkett, and CNN contributor Ryan Mack among several others in the industry with entertainment performances coming from singers Melanie Fiona and Luke James.
NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”
