Alumni Lee Berger’s Research Featured on Science Magazine Cover
The research of alumni Lee Berger (’90), senior research officer and professor
of paleoanthropology at South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand, has
been featured for the third time on the cover of Science magazine.
Berger’s research on Australopithecus Sediba, has “yielded
perhaps the richest assemblage of early hominin fossils on the continent of
Africa” in Malapa, South Africa, according to the magazine article.

“Dr. Berger is one of our favorite alumni. It’s great enough
to make the cover of Science magazine
once, but to do it three times... too bad there is not a Nobel Prize in anthropology,”
said Charles Patterson, vice president for Research & Economic Development.
Berger’s work first appeared on the cover of Science magazine in April 2010, also in September 2011 and April 2013. In addition, he was featured in the
fall 2010 edition of Georgia Southern Magazine.
