Music Department Hosts Final Concert Tuesday
The Music Department will celebrate its final concert of the 2012-13 academic year with the Georgia Southern University Jazz Band on Tuesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
Under the direction of Associate Professor of trumpet and jazz, Dr. Bill Schmid, the ensemble will be playing a wide variety of music, including pieces written by Astor Piazzolla, Kenny Dorham, Kenny Wheeler, Gordon Goodwin and Thelonius Monk. Additionally, Dr. Jonathan Aceto of the Music Department will be featured as a special guest, performing Piazzolla's "Mumuki" on electric violin.
Pieces to be performed include:
- Michelangelo - Astor Piazzolla, arr. Fred Sturm
- Mumuki - Astor Piazzolla, arr. Fred Sturm
- Blue Bossa - Kenny Dorham, arr. Dalton Daniel (jazz band member)
- Gentle Piece - Kenny Wheeler
- Hunting Wabbits - Gordon Goodwin
- Chris - Gene Thorne
- Bemsha Swing - Thelonius Monk, arr. Bill Holman
- Teach Me Tonight - Gene De Paul, arr. Dave Wolpe
- Let's Fall in Love - Harold Arlen, arr. Ted Koehler
- Afro Blue - Mongo Santamaria, arr. Michael Mossman
The event is free and open to everyone in the University community.
