Faculty/Staff Bowling League Donates Funds to Local Hospice

The Bowl Eagles League, an 18-member group composed of Georgia Southern University faculty and staff, just completed its inaugural 20-week season of bowling, and the league has decided to donate $375 of its remaining member fees to Ogeechee Area Hospice, a local charity.

When  group members were  deciding what should be done with the money they’d collected throughout the season, Kristine Yager-Rushton, the team’s 2013 elected president says it was an easy decision.

“It was a choice between spending the money on ourselves or donating it. Once someone suggested a charity–that took off like wildfire,” said Yager-Rushton, the Alumni Development Specialist I in University Advancement’s Information Technology Services department. The league narrowed their options down to three choices, and then voted.

“Ogeechee Area Hospice was excited and delighted to hear that we thought of them and wanted to donate.”

Now recruiting for its second season, the league meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m., at The Clubhouse, 2704 Old Register Rd. Everyone–including spouses and friends– are welcome to participate and no previous bowling experience is required. “It’s even more fun if you share the game with a spouse, family member or co-worker,” said Yager-Rushton.

In addition, the league is recruiting alternates. If you’re unavailable to commit weekly, serving as an alternate player may be the best option. An informational meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at The Clubhouse. The new season begins Tuesday, Sept. 3 and will last until mid-May.

To participate, the cost is $15 plus the shoe rental fee.
